Ownership & funding
Who owns Unbroken Review, how it is paid for, and how we keep the journalism independent of the business behind it.
Who owns us
Unbroken Review is owned and published by Unbroken Protocol, based in the United Kingdom. Unbroken Protocol is a performance-coaching business, founded by Abraham Spring, which also makes a training and recovery app. Abraham Spring is the editor of Unbroken Review.
We think you should know that, and judge our journalism with it in mind.
How we are funded
Unbroken Review is currently funded entirely by its owner. We carry no advertising and no sponsored content. Our journalism and our newsletter are free to read.
If that changes (for example if we introduce advertising, sponsorship or a paid membership), we will update this page first, and label any commercial content clearly.
How we keep the journalism independent
Because our owner runs a business in the field we cover, we hold ourselves to specific rules:
- No promotion. Our journalism does not promote Unbroken Protocol’s coaching services, app or books. You will not find calls to action for them in our articles.
- Disclosure. If Unbroken Protocol, its products or its people are ever relevant to a story, the article will say so plainly, at the point of mention.
- No commercial influence on coverage. Which stories we cover, and what we say about them, is decided on journalistic grounds alone. Athletes, brands, events and researchers receive the same scrutiny whether or not they have any relationship with our owner.
- Evidence first. Our science coverage reports what research shows, including when it cuts against ideas our owner’s business is built on.
- Accountability. Concerns about our independence can be raised with the editor at editor@unbrokenreview.com. We will respond, and where we have fallen short we will say so publicly.
These commitments form part of our editorial standards.
