How we use AI
Artificial intelligence helps us research and draft. People decide what we publish, check every fact and answer for every word.
We believe readers deserve to know how their journalism is made. This is how Unbroken Review uses artificial intelligence.
What AI does at Unbroken Review
- Research support. AI tools help us find and summarise official results, research papers and public reporting. Those summaries are a starting point, never a source: every fact is checked against the original document before publication.
- Drafting assistance. Some articles, particularly results reports and research write-ups, are first drafted with AI assistance from sources our editors have gathered. A human editor then checks every name, number, quotation and claim against the linked sources, rewrites as needed, and signs the article off.
- Production. We may use software to help with tasks such as proofreading, headline testing, transcription and formatting.
What AI never does
- AI does not decide what we publish. Editors do.
- AI does not invent sources, quotations, scenes or data. Quotations in our journalism are real, attributed and checked.
- We do not publish AI-generated images presented as photographs of real people or events. Our photographs are credited to the photographers who took them; our data graphics are drawn from published figures.
- No article is published without a named human editor’s sign-off.
How we label it
- When AI tools helped draft an article, we say so at the foot of the article in a note titled “About this article”, alongside the name of the editor who reviewed it.
- On Apple News, such articles are marked as AI-assisted using Apple’s content labelling and carry an AI disclosure in the byline, in line with Apple’s guidelines.
- AI used only for research, idea generation, headline suggestions or proofreading of an article written by a journalist is not separately labelled.
Accountability
Responsibility for everything we publish rests with the editor, whatever tools were used. If you find an error, email corrections@unbrokenreview.com. Our corrections policy applies equally to every article.
We will update this policy as tools and good practice evolve, and note the date of each change.
